Pornography / Sex Addiction
Almost all people that view pornography and act out sexually do so because it makes them feel good (at least for the moment). Just like heroin and other opiates, this behavior creates large amounts of dopamine (and other neurotransmitters) and when the drug wears off and the dopamine is no longer produced artificially the body is not producing it and so depression, anxiety, emptiness, loneliness will result. In other words dopamine is what people get addicted to with porn use, drugs, sugar, sexual behavior.
So the key is to participate in activities that produce dopamine which are healthy and nurturing; namely, walking in nature, eating healthy (and not overeating), have nurturing and caring emotional relationships, be involved in community activities that benefit you and others.
Two myths about pornography:
1) People who look at pornography and act out sexually are sexual deviants. That they are weak in character and are lacking in will power.
2) Once addicted and can’t stop then a person will always be struggling with wanting to use porn.
Truths about porn use:
1) I can help you stop this sexual behavior in a few months.
2) If you work with me and spend time healing emotionally and spiritually. This is not religious beliefs. This means how you connect with the deeper parts of yourself, how you feel about yourself, and whether you can learn to self nurture and develop self empathy.
You must learn to train your body/mind to not need large amounts of dopamine but learn to enjoy and experience pleasure with small amounts of dopamine.
