Mindfulness

The ultimate goal of the Mindfulness Counseling and therapy is to be able to touch our True Nature.  We do this by accessing deep, heart felt feelings and sharing them in an emotional exchange or resonance with another person, the therapist or partner in couples therapy.

In both therapy and meditation, we change brain chemistry to neurotransmitters that make us feel good. By connecting with the internal experience of  feelings and body sensations, we learn to be in the present moment and to be in the here-and-now through interaction with the therapist. There is no judgment of feelings or experience as right or wrong, only exploration and acceptance.

When we are able to “be” with and accept our internal experience, whether painful or pleasant, the body relaxes. This stops the flow of cortisol and adrenaline and starts flow of seratonin, gaba, oxytocin, or dopamine.

After one Mindfulness Counseling session some people report relief from depression and anxiety and even stop panic attacks. We create a mind-set of openness and receptivity that is characterized by curiosity and playfulness rather than effort and fear.
